Sydney Analytical

Enabling chemical, biological and materials analysis

Sydney Analytical is the University’s flagship facility for chemical, biological and materials analysis. We offer high end capability in vibrational spectroscopy, magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction and scattering, protein production and characterisation, and drug discovery.

We act as the primary interface between the University and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), supporting neutron and synchrotron research. Sydney Analytical also assists University facilities funded by ARC and NHMRC grants, and it aims to expand its global research support.

Vibrational spectroscopy

A wide range of specialised instruments and sampling accessories for use in simple point spectroscopy or sophisticated chemical/biological mappping and imaging.

Scattering and diffraction

Sydney Analytical provides specialist capabilities for sample analysis through X-ray and light scattering, and X-ray diffraction crystallography.

Drug discovery

We offer services in protein production and characterisation, protein X-ray crystallography and biophysical interactions analysis. We offer fragment-based drug discovery and cyclic peptide screening services. We have a state-of-the-art 3D cell biology platform for the culture of organoids for research or drug discovery.

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy

The magnetic resonance facility at Sydney Analytical supports research through 24/7 access to molecular and structural characterisation, biomolecular dynamic investigations and drug development studies.

Materials and geosciences

We offer precision cutting and polishing, high-temperature thermal analysis and customised controlled environment options.

X-ray spectroscopy

X-ray absorption and emission spectra identify and quantify the chemical composition, electronic structure, and physical properties of materials.

Cultural heritage

Tailor-made research services to assist with analysis of cultural heritage materials and objects. We work closely with our users to offer customised training and project development.
